Dana grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh and married her “rock” (and college sweetheart), Joe. Dana, Joe and their two sons reside in the “Zimbicki homestead” on Ryders Lane - the home and orchard the family has owned since 1900. Dana’s older son, Dylan, is in the Graduate School of Education at Rutgers. Dana’s younger son, Hunter, is a Freshman at Rutgers University. Dana began her teaching career in East Brunswick in February of 1989. She taught 7th grade history at Hammarskjold Middle School for 25 years. Dana was the recipient of the 1994 Governor’s Teacher of the Year Award. Dana served on the East Brunswick Education Foundation as the EBEA Liaison when the Foundation was in its infancy. Dana was also an active member of the PTA.  In 2014, Dana left the classroom when she was elected President of the East Brunswick Education Association. Although bittersweet, because her heart was always “in the classroom”, Dana is honored to lead 1450 educators and support staff professionals. Dana believes teaching is the ultimate profession, for the work of those in public education molds the future. In 2016 Dana became a board member of the New Jersey Department of Education Teacher Leader Endorsement Advisory Board. As a board member, Dana is able to advocate for the new teacher leader endorsement, where teachers can pursue their passion for teaching and also engage in a leadership role within the District. Dana is forever grateful to the Foundation for understanding the importance of collaboration and for valuing those who provide an excellent education to our students. Thank you EBEF for your tireless commitment to the East Brunswick Community!
